Just so y'all know, I did not win Wo(G)E #39....sagan did. But, since sagan does not have a blog (but maybe soon?), Kent proposed that the first person to comment could take the next one. And then I strolled on by...right place, right time. So Ron tallied sagan for the win on #39.

So, here we go. Wo(G)E #40 is below. The only clue i'm gonna give is that i've been thinking a lot about this river in recent weeks. Click on image for a higher resolution. This is an oblique view and note north arrow.

The Where on (Google)Earth? quiz started on this blog back in January of this year has grown up and transformed into a community-based series. Many more geo-nerds are getting involved and the installments are featuring oblique views from time to time. I finally had a chance to solve one in time so now it comes back to me. The last one I did was #14 and this is #27!!

I feel like a proud parent. My kid went off to bigger and better things and has now come back for a short visit.

I can never tell anymore what is difficult and what is easy in WoGE. People seem to solve ones ridiculously fast in some cases. I didn't include a scale on this screenshot...it's a few miles across...or something.

The only clue i'm gonna give for this one is that the boundary between shallow water (light blue) and deep water (dark blue) is very sharp.

Where on (Google)Earth #1?

Okay...here's an idea. Every once in a while I'm going to grab an image of somewhere on this planet using GoogleEarth. It's up to the readers to determine or guess where it is. It will usually, although maybe not always, be a natural feature of the Earth that is highlighted. Sometimes I might be zoomed in, other times it'll be a wide shot. Sometimes it might have something to do with an area or phenomenon discussed in the news...sometimes not.

If you can't tell me exactly where it is...then tell me something about the natural feature that is shown.

If you get it right....well, that's it, you get it right....i'm not gonna give you a prize or anything. Who do you think I am?
